The windmill is situated on a rural cul de sac at the edge of Loubes Bernac village. The village has its own Post Office, village shop selling groceries and essentials and the locally renowned 'En Toute Simplicite' Restaurant within 5 minutes walk.

Mobile signals and wifi can be received at the windmill. Within half an hours drive there are several large supermarkets (conveniently located on the outskirts of nearby towns) the nearest petrol stations and banks with cash dispensers.

The Region:-

The region is famous for its sunflowers  gastronomie, wine, chateaux, its medieval bastide towns, its delightfully pretty rolling countryside, the Dordogne river and several caves with some of the oldest known prehistoric art in Europe.

Within a half hour drive there are towns of Duras with its imposing Chateau, the ancient bastide town of Eymet with its weekly summer (July/August) evening market and Bergerac famous for Cyrano and Roxanne, but also for its wine and tobacco.

These towns and many others all hold half day, colourful and vibrant morning markets once a week, year round, where you can mingle with locals buying and selling their produce and have morning coffee sitting outside a café watching others passing by.

Day trips to historic and spectacular towns of Sarlat, Domme and more distantly Rocamadour are highly recommended.

There are several chateaux in the vicinity including the Chateau de Biron, which is partly restored to portray life in days gone by, and the Chateau Monbazillac, famous for its sweet dessert wines. Vineyards are everywhere and wine tasting is very popular as the quality of the wine is good and the prices are substantially cheaper than wines typically on offer in the UK.

St Emillion is about one hour away and offers wine and a very interesting Cathedral carved out of rock. Guided tours of the Cathedral are available in English.

There are numerous restaurants nearby, all offer a gastronomique experience. There are local delicacies including confit de canard, foie gras and salade de gesiers.

Try En Toute Simplicite in Loubes-Bernac.

Leisure Activities:

Amongst the golf courses in the vicinity is a prestigious 27- hole course at Chateau de Vigiers, only 15 minutes away. The Chateau also offers tennis and fishing and the brasserie overlooking the chateau and its lake provides drinks, lunches and evening meals.

There is canoeing on the Dordogne river, there are several tennis courts nearby and hot air balloon trips can be arranged.
